Title: The Coloniality of Data Work

This event is a job talk in American Studies by Julian Posada. Julian Posada is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Information, University of Toronto, and a fellow of the Schwartz Reisman Institute for Technology and Society. He is also affiliated with New York University’s Center for Critical Race and Digital Studies. His research investigates the relationship between labor and data production and how data-driven technologies perpetuate social inequalities. His doctoral work, funded by the International Development Research Centre of Canada, studies the experiences of Latin American workers who produce data for machine learning through online platforms. He holds degrees in sociology (EHESS) and the humanities (Sorbonne) and previously worked at the Laboratory of Computer Science of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS).
